Known as breathable screw bolts, this technology offers fasteners for pressure equalization in sealed enclosures along with a water-tight barrier against dust and water. These include a microporous membrane (e.g., ePTFE) which facilitates controlled exchange and transport of gases but barely permits the penetration of invasive contaminating environments. This capability is important especially in outdoor lighting, marine and industrial equipment where the components are regularly exposed to temperature cycling and environmental extremes. Screw bolts that allow breathability help to avoid problems such as condensation, fogging of the lens, pressure buildup after use, thus providing a longer life and greater safety for the equipment.
